Reasonable Faith: Introduction

01/15/2011

It is the broader task of Christian apologetics to help create and sustain a cultural milieu in which the gospel can be heard as an intellectually viable option for thinking men and women (135).

it will be apologetics which, by making the gospel a credible option for seeking people, gives them, as it were, the intellectual permission to believe (177).

Note: They have definitely succeeded if they are simply making people comfortable feeling like they can be smart and Christian at once. Still, the atheists still are likely to be considered smarter (or elitist unfortunately).

Even if one could succeed in refuting all known objections to Christianity, one would still be left without any reason to think that it is true (293).

Note: I feel like the positive part may be most lacking, especially in the field of ethics.

If your positive apologetic is better than theirs, then you have done your job in showing Christianity to be true. Even if you’re confronted with an objection which you can’t answer, you can still commend your faith as more plausible than its competitors if the arguments and evidence in support of Christian truth claims are stronger than those supporting the unanswered objection (297).

Note: This is how one can reasonably hold a position, even if not an expert. One needn’t know all the answers to maintain the better theory.
