The Case Against Christianity A2: The Atonement

Martin critiques the ransom, satisfaction, acceptance, penal, government, moral, cristus victor, and mystic theories of atonement.

Martin says that all theories “fail to explain why God sacrificed his son for the salvation of sinners” (p.262).

Good introduction to different atonement theories. Haven’t read any Christian philosophers defend any, and Martin says that no view is canonical, so Christians are not tied to any single explanation. If Martin’s critiques are true, this is a huge blow to the plausibility of the Christianity as a whole.
