The Miracle of Theism 11: Belief without Reason


Mackie tackles Pascal, James, and Kierkegaard. Sounds like Pascal and James are the biggest pushers of belief without reason. Here’s a good basic response to Pascal’s wager:

If God really exists and is all good, I imagine he would much prefer an honest, thoughtful doubter than someone who “believes” simply for the selfish reason of eternal life.

If only I said something like that to the lady in Abilene. No matter. . . life goes on.
